Well here is is our first ever movie review. Steamboy, brought to you bye the same Katsuhiro Otomo that gave us Akira. It takes place during the victorian age, where steam is king. I love it because it has several elements going for it. Steampunk, anime from a great director, wonderful imagery, and one of the best speeches about science that has ever been delivered. All of this and it still manages to deliver an important message on how people can corupt the power of science while at the same time showing the hopes and promises science gives to those who are willing to use it wisely. In it father and son scientists Floyd and Edward Steam, invent a new power source for steam based machinery called the Steam Ball which delivers steam at high pressures and densities at very little power loss. Edward's son Ray Steam, years later recive said Steam Ball and soon must protect it from people wanting to use that power for evil. But are the ones who he is delivering it to any better? And who has gone insane? Dad, grandfather, both, neither? The bulk of it takes place in 1866 London at the Great Exhibition, the perfect backdrop. Oh there is an annoying girl with an annoying dog, about the one thing they could take out to make this movie better. If you like anime, if you like steampunk, see Steamboy!
